The EMCOR UK Executive team continues to monitor the situation alongside other central functions include HR and Wellbeing, Sustainability and Assurance and are taking the relevant actions to continue to protect you, and our business, as best we can.

Employee COVID-19 Wellness Flowchart

We have created an employee COVID-19 wellness flowchart, which is designed to be a helpful guide for you to navigate your way through wellness, during the COVID-19 outbreak. To download your copy of the latest version of the flowchart, please visit Flex or speak to your HR Business Partner who will be able to share this with you.

Risk Assessments and Safety Observation Reports

We also continue to emphasise the importance of maintaining our risk assessments to ensure our workplaces remain safe and we can protect ourselves and our customers. If you see anything that you think can be improved or needs to be “put right”, please complete a Safety Observation Report. This applies equally to social distancing or hygiene, as well as task or operational safety matters. Remember that you can also share your positive observations to allow us to all learn from your experience and continuously improve.

Working from home

We continue to maintain our position on working from home where you can. I know this is not possible for those that must attend either our offices or our customers facilities/sites, and I really appreciate the dedication that you continue to show in turning up for work in these conditions. I have said it before, but it can never be said enough, you really are doing an amazing job.

This is complemented by the work that our local teams are doing to proactively manage the response with our customers throughout the outbreak, ensuring business continuity and the health, safety and wellbeing of our people. You will hear from your local teams and management about the measures that impact you.

High risk and vulnerable persons returning to work

All vulnerable persons returning to work are required to undertake a risk assessment with their Line Manager to ensure all relevant controls measures are in place to support the High Risk / Vulnerable Colleague returning to work safely.

2. What you can do to prevent the spread of the virus?

It is critical that everybody observes the following key behaviours:

  • HANDS - Wash your hands regularly and for 20 seconds.
  • FACE - Wear a face covering in indoor settings where social distancing may be difficult, and where you will come into contact with people you do not normally meet.
  • SPACE - Stay 2 metres apart from people you do not live with where possible, or 1 metre with extra precautions in place (such as wearing face coverings or increasing ventilation indoors).

For the full details of how you can help prevent the spread of the virus, we recommend you read and follow the Government's guidance at www.gov.uk/coronavirus.

In particular, you must:

Wear a face covering

There are some places where you must wear a face covering by law. In England, these include:

  • public transport (aeroplanes, trains, trams and buses)
  • taxis and private hire vehicles (PHVs)
  • shops and supermarkets (places which offer goods or services for retail sale or hire)
  • shopping centres (malls and indoor markets)
  • premises providing hospitality (pubs, restaurants, cafes), except when seated at a table to eat or drink
  • post offices, banks, high-street solicitors, credit unions, short-term loan providers
  • theatres
  • premises providing personal care and beauty treatments (hair salons, barbers, nail salons)
  • places of worship
  • public areas in hotels and hostels

For a full list of where a face covering needs to be worn, please visit https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/face-coverings-when-to-wear-one-and-how-to-make-your-own/face-coverings-when-to-wear-one-and-how-to-make-your-own

You are expected to wear a face covering before entering any of these settings and must keep it on until you leave unless there is a reasonable excuse for removing it.

You should also wear a face covering in indoor places not listed on the full government list, where social distancing may be difficult and where you will come into contact with people you do not normally meet.

Face coverings are also needed in NHS settings, including hospitals and primary or community care settings, such as GP surgeries. They are also advised to be worn in care homes.

Self-isolate

  • If you have symptoms of COVID-19 however mild, self-isolate for at least 10 days from when your symptoms started. You should arrange to have a test to see if you have COVID-19, do not go to a GP surgery, pharmacy or hospital.
  • If you are not experiencing symptoms but have tested positive for COVID-19, selfisolate for at least 10 days, starting from the day the test was taken. If you develop symptoms during this isolation period, restart your 10-day isolation from the day you developed symptoms.

From 28 September, you could be fined if you do not stay at home and self-isolate following a positive test result for COVID-19 or if you are contacted by NHS Test and Trace and instructed to self-isolate.

There may be a situation where you are required to self-isolate despite not testing positive for COVID-19. This may include:

In these circumstances you must inform your Line Manager at the soonest possible time and follow the Government guidelines on self-isolation.
