EMCOR UK’s award-winning commitment to Health Safety & Wellbeing (HS&W) is considered integral to our success as a people centred organisation. Safety is embedded within our five core values, and a safety first approach to everything we do has helped EMCOR UK develop an outstanding safety culture for its teams.
We believe HS&W means physical and psychological safety and our goal is to create the conditions necessary to help enable our teams to thrive in their workplace and remain protected at all times.
A zero injury safety culture is the product of individual and group values, attitudes, perceptions, competencies, and patterns of behaviour that determine the commitment to safety, as well as the style and proficiency of safety management. We believe that the only acceptable safety goal within EMCOR UK is the aspiration of ZERO injuries.
At EMCOR UK health safety and wellbeing is one of our five core values and we have been recognised with over 60 related awards in the past decade.
EMCOR UK delivers a range of services across a varied customer portfolio and we understand that a one size HS&W solution will only serve to exclude members of our team. This is why we have collaborated with the University of East Anglia as part of their research into supporting remote workers, to help ensure that our approach captures all of our employees.
Our risk intelligence is built on our technical know-how but equally importantly, it is also framed through our engagement with our teams. A network of site culture groups and wellbeing champions assist EMCOR UK’s health and safety practitioners through feedback session and two-way communication which allows us to help ensure that the HS&W support and interventions are practical and efficient across our business.
Our commitment to do no harm and foster a safe and healthy culture is the product of individual and group values, attitudes, perceptions, competencies and total proficiency in safety management. We believe that the only acceptable safety goal within EMCOR UK is the goal of do no harm and to work relentlessly to achieve this.
Part of what has contributed to EMCOR UK's success in the area of health and safety practices is the development of a positive safety culture. Our “Be There For Life” and “Be Vigilant” programmes promote awareness across our business and we empower all our colleagues to be able to ‘STOP’ if they feel a task or situation is unsafe.
Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) awards are presented to organisations on the grounds of high standards in occupational health and life safety management.
Over the course of ten years, EMCOR UK has received more than 60 awards—including Silver, Gold, Gold Medal, President, and Sector awards—recognising us for demonstrating well developed occupational health and safety management systems, outstanding risk control, and low levels of failure, harm, and loss.
EMCOR UK was one of only ten companies worldwide to be ISO 45001 certified on the first day the new standard went into effect.
ISO 45001 specifies requirements for an occupational health and safety (OH&S) management system, with guidance for its use, to enable organisations to proactively improve OH&S performance in preventing injury and ill-health.
The standard has a focus on risk and opportunity and encourages organisations to embed OH&S throughout their business, which is why it is so important for us here at EMCOR UK.
EMCOR UK has developed an employee benefits platform which is revolutionising the way in which we actively support our employees across the wellbeing agenda including the emerging trends of financial, digital and social health.
The wellbeing champions network has been critical to the success of the design and implementation of the platform, helping to enable EMCOR UK to adopt a holistic and sustainable approach to our HS&W journey.
The team sees it role as a partner and subject matter expert to all our employees in the field. The team not only reviews performance in order to identify areas for continuous improvement but it actively encourages the sharing of information and best practice.
The team adopts a fair and just culture approach to incident investigation understanding that openness and curiosity is essential to positive learning outcomes. Of course, EMCOR UK works closely with all relevant legislative bodies in order to ensure that we are at the forefront of health and safety policy development.
At EMCOR UK – health, safety and wellbeing isn’t just a goal, it’s a way of life.
