On the 22nd-23rd November, the Net Zero and Energy Management Expo (EMEX) will be held in ExCel London. The event hosts a range of experts who lead the conversation on carbon management, energy efficiency, and sustainability.

EMEX gives attendees the chance to gain new insights and listen to specialist advice on cost-saving solutions as well as innovative industry practices to improve their energy management.

Energy costs panel discussion

Kam Singh, EMCOR UK’s director of carbon solutions, will be a panellist on the discussion “How businesses can reduce their energy costs”. He will be joined by Eric Bakken, energy and sustainability sales lead for EMEA – JLL, Shane Betts, head of corporate accounts – JLL, and Jason Koffler, CEO of Critical Power Supplies.

Kam has more than 25 years’ experience in the sustainability industry, spanning both the public and private sectors. Since transitioning to the private sector he has focussed on energy and carbon management for large corporate clients.

Smart energy management

Kam will discuss a key aspect of his role at EMCOR UK - understanding energy profiles to ensure effective energy management. By gathering pre-existing data, businesses can enhance their knowledge on their energy use and can implement new energy saving, cost effective methods, without relying on the latest technology.

This will become even more important in 2024 as energy prices have remained volatile in the face of global events. It may be that this volatility is the new normal and we won’t ever return to the baseline prices seen in 2019. For this reason, businesses should explore purchasing energy in advance and increasing the use of renewables.

While many businesses are currently using renewables to varying degrees, many accreditations lack legitimacy. Kam will explore this topic, including the increase of Power Purchase Agreements. These clearly link a business’s energy sourcing to a scheme, for example you can say that you are getting 20% of your energy from a specific wind farm. This transparency reassures customers and clients that you are being fully open about your energy management.

Kam will also discuss the importance of operating buildings in line with occupancy. Heating systems simply do not need to operate to the same level every day if occupancy levels are wildly fluctuating. Kam will discuss how this data can be collected and acted on to create an efficient estate.

Industry leading insight

The insight offered on this panel will highlight how energy management methods need to change for the people, planet and for organisations to benefit.

This extends beyond energy management and into comprehensive support for employees, working with supply chain partners to measure and verify scope 3 emissions, and collaborating with multiple partners to meet these goals.
