Project description

A Westminster theatre contacted EMCOR UK to replace their existing chiller system, which was nearing the end of its lifespan, operating poorly, and becoming a significant burden for the theatre. EMCOR UK focussed on strategic planning and diligent project preparation, in order to minimize disruption to the customer’s business operations.

Key benefits

  • By planning the works in winter, when demand for cooling is low, EMCOR UK’s highly efficient team was able to install the new chiller and accompanying pipe work with relatively little downtime for the theatre
  • Located on a high-traffic thoroughfare in central London, the project – which included street closures and the use of cranes – required meticulous planning and teamwork, only made possible by EMCOR UK’s project management expertise
  • The new chiller is significantly more energy efficient than the existing chiller, and provides additional long-term savings by helping to prevent a complete system failure, which would have disastrous consequences for the theatre
  • The refrigerant gas used by the existing chiller was scheduled to be phased-out under new legislation. The new chiller features cutting-edge technology and should maintain statutory compliance for years to come

 About the customer
The 588-person-capacity theatre has been operating in London for almost 150 years and is listed as a Grade II building of historical significance.
