EMCOR UK’s support of Dentaid set to benefit thousands with pain relieving dental care for many years to come

We’re supporting Dentaid this festive season, so instead of printing and posting Christmas cards we are helping to treat some of the poorest and remote communities in the world with pain relieving oral health services.

We are funding a portable dental surgery – called a DentaidBox; an entire dental surgery that fits into a wheelie bin and can be operated without access to running water or electricity! It includes a fully adjustable dental chair, a pressure cooker for sterilising, a range of instruments and oral health education resources.

In recent years DentaidBoxes have been used for mobile dental clinics and sent to countries including Malawi, Zambia, Guinea, Cambodia, Uganda, Cameroon and Vanuatu.

In these countries, Dentaid volunteers run clinics and outreach programmes in refugee camps, remote villages, schools, prisons, orphanages and community buildings. Every year many thousands of people are relieved of dental pain thanks to their hard work.

Dentaid was founded in 1996 by a dentist who wanted to bring dental health to those who couldn’t access it; starting with treatment in developing nations and more recently, in the UK. Patients in the UK are typically the homeless, care home residents, areas without an NHS dentists and seamen’s missions. In schools they provide oral education. Dentaid currently have two mobile units in the UK operated by NHS volunteer dentists who give their free time.

Nick Coulstock, EMCOR UK’s Head of HR initiated the campaign to support Dentaid, said: “When we first met Dentaid, we were impressed by the impact of their work on local communities in the UK and abroad. We hope that our support helps raise awareness and funds so they can continue to treat people who would normally not get access to oral health services and dental treatment.

CEO Andy Evans: “We are delighted that EMCOR UK has chosen to support Dentaid. We are committed to increasing access to safe, sustainable dental care in the poorest and most remote communities in the world”.

“Thanks to EMCOR UK’s support this Christmas, thousands of people will benefit from safe, affordable, pain relieving dental care for many years to come.” Andy Evans, CEO, Dentaid
