- Leading facilities management provider receives third consecutive FM sector award for its collaborative health and safety work with AWE at annual awards ceremony in Birmingham –

Birmingham, 07 June 2019: Adding to its already impressive record of health and safety achievements, EMCOR UK has been presented with the prestigious RoSPA Facilities Management sector award for its work with the AWE. This marks the third time in a row that the collaborative partnership has been rewarded at the annual ceremony and takes their tally of RoSPA awards to 18 in a partnership spanning 20+ years.

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) Awards scheme, which receives entries from organisations around the world, recognises achievement in health and safety management systems, including practices such as leadership and workforce involvement. It is the longest running industry awards in the UK. EMCOR UK and AWE’s rigorous standards regarding health and safety are particularly significant given the demanding and technical nature of the work carried out on a day-to-day basis at AWE.

For a minimum of four years' consistently excellent or continuously improving health and safety performance, our work at BAE Systems North was commended in the Facilities Management sector category. In addition to this success, EMCOR UK also received the RoSPA Gold Medal (8 consecutive Golds) Award and three further prestigious Gold RoSPA Awards for its work with DSTL, United Utilities and Thames Water. To hold a RoSPA Gold Award, winners must have achieved a very high level of performance, demonstrating well-developed occupational health and safety management systems and culture, outstanding control of risk and very low levels of error, harm and loss. Only organisations that have previously won more than five individual Gold Awards can be considered for Gold Medal Status.

This is just the latest industry recognition of EMCOR UK’s impressive health and safety record. Most recently, it won an International Safety Award with Merit from the British Safety Council for the tenth year in a row. The award recognises EMCOR UK’s continuing commitment to keeping its workers and workplaces healthy every day. In the past decade, EMCOR UK has won over fifty British Safety Council and RoSPA awards.

Keith Chanter, CEO of EMCOR UK, said: “While we are no strangers to winning awards for our health and safety, we are extremely pleased to win the Facilities Management sector award for our work with AWE. This achievement, along with the Gold Medal Award received for EMCOR UK and four of our customers, reflects how important health, safety and wellbeing is to us. It continues to be our number one priority and we are totally committed to meeting the highest standards possible, for our employees, business and supply chain partners and customers.”

Mark Hedges, AWE Site Director, said:“EMCOR UK’s Health and Safety record at AWE is extremely impressive and greatly supported the exceptional safety performance across our establishment. The safety initiatives implemented by EMCOR UK and AWE teams have ensured that we deliver output in a safe and secure environment. This collaborative approach to safety, originating back to 1995, is very important in the complex, secure and high regulated environment that is AWE. We look forward to sustaining our safety record with EMCOR UKs support in the future.”

Julia Small, head of qualifications, awards and events at RoSPA said: “The RoSPA Awards have become the key fixture in the health and safety calendar with new sponsors and new awards this year including the Leisure Safety Awards, the Safe@Work, Safe@Home Award and the Inspiration Awards. Highly-respected, with almost 2,000 entrants every year, RoSPA award winners benefit from the wide-ranging rewards of improved sector reputation.”
