EMCOR UK recognised the exceptional achievements of its employees who perform facilities management services on behalf of customers at its 9th annual EMCOR UK Excellence Awards ceremony. A total of 15 awards were presented at the event recently held and hosted by EMCOR UK CEO Keith Chanter and Executive Directors Christopher Kehoe and David Parker.
Performance Excellence Awards presented during the course of the evening included “Team of the Year”, “Contribution to a Sustainable Future Award”, “Innovation and New Ideas”, “Health and Safety”, and “Community Involvement”.
“Team of the Year” Award was presented to the EMCOR UK’s NATS team. Collaboration, a key competency of EMCOR UK, was clearly demonstrated by the EMCOR UK NATS team. NATS, a longstanding customer of EMCOR UK for over 12 years, is the UK’s leading provider of air traffic control services. The NATS team was instrumental in successfully completing the highly technical installation of a temporary operations and equipment room at NATS’ Swanwick control centre in Hampshire, UK. This represents the first of nine milestones on NATS’ journey towards completely overhauling its technology infrastructure and how it manages air traffic in the UK. The move paves the way for creation of a new single combined operations room at Swanwick by 2019. As part of the nine-month assignment, the EMCOR UK team provided the design, build, and installation of the mechanical and electrical infrastructure, along with an integrated data network solution.
“Innovation and New Ideas” Award was presented to Stefan Kilgallon, Fire Protection Manager, for successfully inventing a retro fitted water saving device that is capable of saving up to 400,000 litres of water per sprinkler set, each year. The unique device revolutionises mandatory testing of automatic fire sprinklers, saving customers water and money. The device simulates the flow of one sprinkler head in operation and thereby only discharges 25 litres of water instead of up to 8,000 litres without the system.
“Community Involvement” Award” was presented to David Lovelock, HSE Advisor, who completed a fantastic feat of participating in 30 fundraising sporting events before he turned 30 years old January, 2016. Some of the activities he accomplished included three half marathons, the Great North Swim, and a 48k bike ride in London. David also raised an incredible £2,917.50 for a charity called Myotonic Dystrophy.
“Contribution to a Sustainable Future” Award was presented to Alison Bettany, Commodity Team Manager. Alison single-handedly designed and implemented a series of policies and procedures across the business, which resulted in EMCOR UK becoming re-assessed to BS 8903 “expert” status, widely recognised as the standard for sustainable procurement. EMCOR UK was the first facilities management (FM) company to achieve BS 8903 in 2013.
A standing ovation was received for ‘”Going The Extra Mile” Award by an EMCOR UK on site Team located at NATS Corporate Technical Centre (CTC) who saved the life of a 19 year old young man who collapsed at work with a heart attack and had stopped breathing. The seven strong team performed de-fib four times to keep him alive. Paramedics acknowledged that the young man, who was taken to hospital and put into an induced coma, would not have survived if it had not been for the actions of the on site team who put into practice life-saving training they had received in the line of duty by EMCOR UK. The moment was made even more memorable by the attendance of the young man, his girlfriend and parents, who were understandably emotional at the presentation of the award.
Keith Chanter, EMCOR CEO, summarised the evening’s ceremony:
“We are delighted to celebrate the ninth year of the excellence awards to recognise the wide range of skilled individuals we have at EMCOR UK and the exceptional customer service that our employees demonstrate at their workplace every day. One of EMCOR UK’s core competencies is collaboration, and in reviewing the many award submissions and being part of this incredible awards evening, it is evident that our teams have worked incredibly well together, and with our customers and suppliers. People are at the core of EMCOR UK’s success, and collaboration is at the heart of that core.”
