EMCOR Group (UK) Awarded Extension To Its 12-Year Facilities Management Contract With British American Tobacco
14th December 2011
EMCOR Group (UK) is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a three-year extension to its longstanding facilities management contract with British American Tobacco, continuing a relationship, which started in 1999. The contract extension includes the delivery of integrated facilities management and engineering services at British American Tobacco's prestigious 196,000 square foot global headquarters overlooking the River Thames in London, which accommodates 1,200 staff. EMCOR UK will continue to deliver strategic facilities services advice and implement a broad scope of mechanical, electrical, maintenance and fabric services, helping to yield significant efficiency and cost savings.
As part of the contract extension, EMCOR UK will support British American Tobacco in its efforts to streamline processes across the global business over the next three years. EMCOR will continue to build on the facilities management efficiencies it has helped British American Tobacco achieve to date and will strive to deliver a further range of tangible benefits, such as reducing and controlling operating costs and aligning service levels. Committed to business partnering excellence, EMCOR has built a collaborative working relationship with British American Tobacco, which is mutually beneficial in delivering value and sharing expertise.
EMCOR was selected for this contract as a result of its proven ability to fully embrace the 'one team' approach at the core of British American Tobacco's culture. Having started in 1999 delivering basic mechanical and electrical services, the contract has expanded to include technical services, porterage, customer service, helpdesk and 24/7/365 emergency cover for the company's Globe House headquarters.
EMCOR UK has also played a key role in helping British American Tobacco to maintain and improve on good practice in energy management, by developing new energy saving initiatives and encouraging staff to be energy aware. EMCOR has also incorporated energy efficient technology across the facilities, and these initiatives have delivered a significant reduction in energy consumption. British American Tobacco, in partnership with EMCOR, were awarded national recognition for their achievements in energy efficiency in 2006, becoming one of only 250 UK companies to achieve accreditation under the Energy Efficiency Accreditation Scheme – the UK's independent benchmark for energy use by the Carbon Trust.
Under the latest terms of the contract, EMCOR will take on new responsibilities for delivering health and safety support, project services and workspace management (such as management of the CEO office refurbishment team).
John Warren, Divisional Director for EMCOR Facilities Services, said: "Our long-established collaborative relationship with British American Tobacco is going from strength to strength. This is testament to our track record for sustaining long-term relationships by consistently delivering both operational and cost efficiencies, as well as British American Tobacco's keenness to integrate FM into the business effectively. Our services are totally aligned with the business."
Phil Hepburn, Head of Facilities for British American Tobacco, said: "EMCOR was selected for its commitment to a partnership approach and their ability to align themselves with our corporate objectives. They also have a strong track record of providing significant efficiency and cost savings. EMCOR has made a significant contribution to British American Tobacco's carbon reduction commitment, increasing sustainability and reducing energy consumption within the organisation, by undertaking a range of energy management initiatives. We will continue to work together and address the challenges ahead."
EMCOR builds collaborative relationships with its customers to continually develop and shape its services and support the efficiency of their organisations. EMCOR is the first facilities management provider to be awarded BS 11000 by the British Standards Institution - the world's first relationship management standard for creating and maintaining successful business-to-business partnerships.
