EMCOR UK proudly announces it raised more than £60,000 for breast cancer awareness and screening - surpassing its goal of £55,000, representing the 55,000 people diagnosed with breast cancer in the UK annually - in addition to raising awareness for the importance of breast cancer screening, as part of its first annual Tour de Wellbeing - a virtual cycling race. The announcement was made 2 October, 2015 at the finale event held at London’s Olympic Velodrome, where EMCOR UK had installed the Wi-Fi before the London 2012 Olympics. Money raised will be donated to Breast Cancer Care. A gallery of pictures and video can be seen on the EMCOR UK website in the Tour de Wellbeing section.
AWE, BAE Systems, Birketts, Mercer, and Rexel were the top five teams that won the right to compete at the 2 October finale event. Mercer was the winning team, and was awarded £1,000 to donate to the charity of its choosing. In total, more than 150 people were on hand for the exciting finale event, including Tony Gibb, ex TeamGB Cyclist, EMCOR UK employees, suppliers, partners and customers.
Leading up to the finale, a total of 54 cycling teams, representing 16 different customers and suppliers and including EMCOR UK employees, participated in 55-minute virtual cycling heats in the Tour de Wellbeing held 4-26 July, 2015.
Keith Chanter, CEO, EMCOR UK, who opened the 2 October Tour de Wellbeing finale, commented:
“EMCOR UK’s support for breast cancer awareness and screening spans more than a decade---it’s a cause very close to our hearts. The £60,000+ raised by Tour de Wellbeing will be donated by EMCOR UK to Breast Cancer Care, thanks to our employees, customers, and suppliers that help make us the business we are. This is particularly gratifying to bring all these aspects together and see EMCOR UK’s Tour de Wellbeing become a major success in its inaugural year. As one of many cycling fans, not only was it my extreme honor to open the finale of the Tour de Wellbeing event at the iconic Lee Valley Velodrome, but it was also rewarding to see so many people support this great cause, as they take up the opportunity to learn more about wellbeing, network, and participate in various cycling activities.”
Sara Rees, Head of Corporate Partnerships, Breast Cancer Care, stated:
“We're incredibly grateful for the support of everyone at EMCOR UK, and want to say a huge thank you! Raising £60,000 in under a year is a fantastic achievement, and they’ve been highlighting vital messages about being breast aware too. All efforts will help us be there from day one for anyone affected by breast cancer.”
