EMCOR Engineering Services Ltd has completed a £24 million M&Econtract in 12 months for the Defence Aviation Repair Agency (DARA) facility at RAF St. Athan, South Wales. The completion of the M&Econtract marks the first stage of a 15-year full life cycle deal, which willinclude facilities management services.

This will definitely have a positive impact on the FMservices, which can now begin.”
SCOPE OF WORK
The scope of services completed by EES’ includes the provision ofhydraulics, pneumatics, spray pant facility, FA/PA, CCTV and security,voice and date systems, 400H3 power distribution, air-condition and dxcooling, complex lighting control, and sprinkler fire protector.
BACKGROUND
The Defence Aviation Repair Agency (DARA) was created in April 1999 byamalgamating the RAF’s Maintenance Group Defence Agency (MGDA)and the Naval Aircraft Repair Organisation (NARO). It is the largestGovernment owned aerospace repair facility within Europe, delivering one-stop-shop aerospace support to the MoD, overseas governments andIndustry. DARA became a Trading Agency of the MoD in April 2001.
DARA employs over 4000 staff located on four sites in the UK –St Athannear Cardiff; Fleetlands at Gosport, Hampshire; Almondbank in Perthshire,Scotland; and Sealand in Flintshire, North Wales.
OBJECTIVES
DARA’s ‘Super Hangar’ facility will be used to promote excellence amonginternational aviation engineers and will enable the company to bidsuccessfully for the future work and be more competitive in the aviationmaintenance market place. The facility, the largest in the UK, will provide20,000m² of support workshops and office facilities for head office andFixed Wing staff and 45,000m² of hanger accommodation.
