PROJECT DESCRIPTION
EMCOR Engineering Services were awarded the contract to design and install the MEP and Specialist Services to Milton Keynes General, New Diagnostic and
Treatment Centre (DTC), a building at the leading edge of design for healthcare
facilities. This project was part of the National Health’s PC21 pilot scheme and is
the 1st Diagnostic and Treatment Centre in the country to date. The DTC offers an
effective and enhanced model of patient care, separating and streamlining each
clinical function from pre-assessment to recovery. It’s construction has increased
capacity, separated planned and emergency procedures and located clinical
functions in close proximity to each other to provide a patient entred service.
The project combines MEP installations in a brand new 2-storey building, with 4
new theatre suites integrating with the existing suite to form an 8 theatre unit.
These theatres include 2 ultra-clean laminar flow theatres. Other features include;
Main Entrance and Reception area, a 60 bed Day Surgery Unit and Extended Day
Surgery Unit, Pre-assessment and Assessment Units, Examination Rooms,
Consultation Rooms, Treatment Rooms, Catering Facilities, Ophthalmology
Department, 1st and 2nd stage theatre recovery rooms, single bed en-suite wards
and 4 bed en-suite wards.
VALUE DELIVERED
Early involvement throughout the design and development process enabled
EMCOR Engineering Services to understand and deliver a finished product that
met the requirements of the Milton Keynes NHS Trust.
The project was delivered on time and within budget.
Graham Forbes, EMCOR Engineering Services commented: “The early and
initial involvement and whole team collaboration with the Trust, allowed us to
fully understand their needs and requirements so that we were able to deliver a
first class facility which has come on line immediately and has benefited the
Milton Keynes Trust and it’s patients.”
EMCOR’s CLIENT RELATIONSHIP
EMCOR Engineering Services were the Principal Supply Chain Member to
Norwest Holst, who in turn were the Principal Supply Chain Partner to the Milton
Keynes Hospital Trust. EES commenced the design and development stage in
January 2003 and actual construction began in Christmas 2003 for a phased
completion and handover to the Trust in November 2004. Following completion of
the Milton Keynes DTC with Norwest Holst, EMCOR’s strong focus on
excellence subsequently contributed to this projects’ success. EMCOR believe in
working together to deliver a product that satisfies their clients’ requirements.
They took a positive outlook, non-confrontational and open approach to act as a
team throughout every stage maintaining the strong relationship with Norwest
Holst.
Roger Antrobus, Norwest Holst (pictured below far left) commented: “Throughout
the course of the project we have focused on maintaining an open, honest and
