VALUE DELIVERED
- Key to the continued operational success of the airport is the safety of passengers and the efficiency and uninterrupted supply of services. EMCOR provides the expertise to help minimise passenger disruption and operational expenditure.
- EMCOR integrated energy management into the contract and its expertise in reducing costs and managing energy efficiently has supported the airport in saving energy, reducing its carbon footprint and delivering sustainable solutions to support future growth plans.
- Since partnering with EMCOR for facilities management services, the airport’s operational costs have reduced by 18%, whilst absorbing a 26% increase in the airport’s size (2004-2009). This was achieved through the introduction of the asset protection plan which optimised maintenance resources.
SCOPE OF WORK
EMCOR provides a wide range of facilities management services to the airport including:
- Energy management
- Maintenance of the terminal with its associated buildings, the critical airfield ground lighting and passenger baggage handling systems that enable over 1.6 million passengers to pass through the airport uninterrupted each year.
BACKGROUND
Cardiff Airport forms part of abertis - one of the world’s leading airport owners and operators. In 2009 passenger traffic at Cardiff Airport reached over 1.6 million and the airport directly supports over 1,000 jobs in South Wales. Over 50 direct flights are available to a wide range of destinations, and over 900 connecting flights to worldwide locations via hubs including Amsterdam Schiphol, Paris CDG and Dublin.
OBJECTIVES
- Cardiff Airport relies on EMCOR’s expertise in airports and critical environments to help ensure the efficient running of its facility.
- Maintaining the systems at the core of operations requires an innovative approach to facilities management.
SOLUTIONS
EMCOR’s long-term partnership with Cardiff Airport has enabled a full understanding of the airport’s operating environment and objectives. This is crucial to the contract’s success especially considering the nature of the services provided by EMCOR, which include the maintenance of operationally critical airfield ground lighting and passenger baggage handling systems. Direct liaison through EMCOR’s dedicated account team further ensures that EMCOR understands changes in the airport’s requirements and has the flexibility to adapt its service provision accordingly with minimal disruption to dayto day activities.
EMCOR implements its own asset protection plan which grades assets depending on their criticality to operations. This enables EMCOR to identify and prioritise services which directly impact Cardiff Airport’s business performance. The plan has been critical for driving efficiencies through the full evaluation of risk and consequence and has reduced the risk to Cardiff Airport’s operations by ensuring that core assets are identified for prioritised maintenance.
