NATS PRESTWICK FACILITIES BACKGROUND
NATS, the UK’s leading air navigation service provider, controls aircraft flying in UK airspace and over the Eastern part of the North Atlantic. NATS has completed work on the new Prestwick Centre in Scotland for operational service from late 2009. The new Prestwick Centre, built as part of NATS’ Two-Centre Strategy, enables the company to consolidate its current Manchester and Prestwick en-route operations into a new building to form the sixth largest air traffic control operations centre in Europe, in terms of traffic handled.
EMCOR ENGINEERING SERVICES VALUE DELIVERED
EMCOR UK were contracted to perform the duties of Main Contractor which included the control of all trades that reported to site, inducting 1297 people across different trades throughout Contract 4 and 5. One of the priority roles EMCOR Engineering Services undertook was to ensure that all persons on site were working in a safe and organised manner with full attention to health and life safety on site.
All existing building systems remained in operation during all phases of the electrical construction engineering works. EMCOR had to co-ordinate and work around the current live systems to ensure continuous operations with minimal disruptions.
ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING SERVICES SCOPE OF WORK
- Containment – supplied and installed multi-levels for all disciplines
- Power and data systems – supplied, installed, tested and commissioned the power supplies to plug in units, also structure cabling to the operational desks, including the installation of all data cabinets in the equipment rooms and fibre optics
- Fire alarm system modifications – installed, tested and commissioned a new VESDA system which was connected to the existing system
- EMS system – supplied, installed, tested and commissioned updates to the Electrical Management System, including the update of database software to the existing system
- SSMS – supplied, installed, tested and commissioned the Static Switch Monitoring System, to monitor all the Automatic Static Transfer Switch’s installed within the PTUs
- AV system – supplied, installed, tested and commissioned the audio visual system throughout the building, including the TV distribution system
- PDU and PTU switch panels – manufactured, installed, tested and commissioned all power distribution units and all power tower units.
- Disabled refuge system – supplied, installed, tested and commissioned a full disabled refuge system in all stairwells, reporting back to the main control room.
