DATA CENTRE BACKGROUND
The data centre, located in England, stood as a shell, having previously been newly constructed prior to EMCOR being appointed as the main construction engineering contractor for the fit out works. The building project was pre-designed for EMCOR and the scope of works included the fit out of all the mechanical, electrical, and public health engineering services, as well as fire and security services to this data centre. EMCOR were also responsible for the building works, landscaping and specialist cleaning.
The original design was to deliver 2250m2 net technical space in a new build, tier 3 data facility.
EMCOR ENGINEERING SERVICES VALUE DELIVERED
The contract was awarded at the end of April 2007 followed immediately by a due diligence period. Commencement of works on site was July 2007, with practical completion of the construction project (including a 3 month Integrated Services Testing period) achieved on 19th August 2008.
EMCOR also undertook specialist cleaning to the data hall prior to handover and conducted, with the client, specific integrated services testing, which was EMCOR’s responsibility as main contractor.
The teams involved in the data centre project integrated well and worked closely, with most of the key team based on the site complex during works. EMCOR worked closely with the client’s project manager, architect and consultants to provide engineered solutions to meet the client’s requirements.

FEEDBACK
“In the project manager’s point of view, EMCOR rose to the challenge of managing a technically complex fit out within an ambitious programme. They assembled a very well qualified team who oversaw the good workmanship and rigorous testing and commissioning that prevailed. The project benefited from a good team spirit exercised by client, consultants and contractor alike. Each constraint was managed with vigour allowing practical completion to occur in line with client business needs.”
